Does AI Website Building Work? What I Learned from Building Two Sites with AI
Are AI website builders useful for rapid validation, or can they replace a company website directly? Drawing on hands-on experience, this article examines topic-led sites, content clusters, existing traffic and maintenance to explain what AI accelerates and what still requires judgment.
1. AI website building works, but its value is more than a low price
My assessment is that AI website building works when used in the right situation.
Its best application is not necessarily a very cheap corporate website. It can be a way to validate a business direction quickly.
For example, a B2B company testing a service, product line or niche market may face a lengthy traditional process: business clarification, page planning, copywriting, design, development and repeated revisions. Communication and experimentation costs can be substantial.
New sites and pages also need time for crawling, indexing and stable rankings after launch. A long build period can further increase the cost of validating the business.
AI's value is clear at this stage. It can accelerate competitor research, a first draft of website positioning, page structure, copy, basic on-page SEO and consultation entry points.
Put the business proposition into the market first, observe search performance, clicks and customer inquiries, then decide whether to invest further.
That is the most valuable aspect of AI website building to me: reducing the cost of early validation, rather than simply being cheap.
2. A misconception: AI website building is not bulk page generation
Many people picture entering a prompt and generating a homepage, About page, services, Contact page and a large volume of blog posts.
A complete-looking page set does not necessarily make a useful site for customers or an understandable one for search engines.
Producing content in bulk is not inherently the problem. The question is whether those pages meet target customers' search intent.
On B2B sites especially, customers do not come to count pages. They want to determine quickly:
What exactly do you do?
Which problems can you solve?
Which customers are you suited to?
Do you have relevant experience?
How should they contact you next?
If this information is not organized before the build and AI simply generates one page after another, the result becomes disconnected pages without topic relationships, real evidence or trust.
AI has then increased production speed without improving the site's ability to communicate the business.
3. I recommend a topic-led approach
My preferred use of AI is to build around a business topic.
Define the topic first, then organize different page types around it.
A complete topic usually needs more than one page. It may include a core service page, solution pages, case studies, blog content, FAQs, calls to action and forms.
Service pages explain what you offer.
Solution pages explain which situations you serve.
Case studies supply evidence.
Blog posts address searches at different funnel stages.
FAQs address concerns before a decision.
Calls to action and forms turn interest into inquiries.
These pages have different roles but communicate the same business topic.
A visitor arriving through a blog post can return to the core service page. Someone reading a solution can continue to a case study. Questions can lead through FAQs and forms into a consultation.
This creates a content cluster around a business topic, rather than a few pages assembled together.
In SEO, content clusters are often used to improve topical coverage, intent matching and internal links. They do not necessarily produce rankings directly, but can help search engines understand the site's business focus.
In AI search and recommendation contexts, topic-led content also supplies clearer context about the site's field, the problems it solves and the customers it suits.
4. AI's real strength is accelerating execution and iteration across a topic cluster
The value goes beyond generating pages. With planning in place, AI can accelerate implementation across the entire cluster.
Once the business structure, keywords, page relationships, internal links and conversion path are clear, AI can quickly draft different pages, align their language, add FAQs and modules, and adjust calls to action.
With core pages, supporting pages and anchor-text logic defined, AI can also help implement internal links faster.
The starting point is not asking AI to add links automatically. It is deciding which pages are central, which support them, which attract search visits and which encourage inquiries.
AI can execute quickly once these relationships are understood.
After launch, GSC queries, clicks, impressions and page performance can guide coordinated changes to titles, content modules, internal links and calls to action across the topic.
This is an advantage of topic-led AI website building over ordinary page generation.
Later work can adjust the language, entry points and links across a group of related pages, rather than edit one isolated page.
5. Large sites and corporate rebuilds need more than lightweight AI builders
From my experience, using a lightweight AI builder directly for a large company's website is generally not advisable.
AI can still help, but large sites need more than page generation.
They often involve complex businesses, content administration, templates, section structures, case studies, blog topic groups, internal-link rules, form tracking, CRM integration and long-term operations.
Without planning, the site becomes difficult to manage after launch. Redesigns and content expansion become heavy work, highly dependent on developers, and operational adjustments become cumbersome.
Corporate website rebuilds require particular care.
If the existing site has traffic, indexed pages and keyword rankings, it cannot simply be torn down.
Before rebuilding, establish:
Which pages receive traffic;
Which keywords rank;
Which pages generate inquiries;
Which content should remain;
Which URLs should not change casually;
How the new structure will accommodate the existing business and content.
Otherwise, a familiar problem appears:
The site looks better, but its previous traffic and inquiries disappear.
6. My assessment
I see AI website building as suitable for rapid early business validation.
It is particularly useful for B2B companies testing a new service, product line or focused business area through a topic-led site.
It should not replace a corporate website system without planning.
AI accelerates building, but cannot decide the business direction for you or automatically resolve keywords, content clusters, internal links and conversion paths.
Results depend less on the chosen AI tool than on whether you have clarified:
The business topic;
How customers search;
How pages are organized;
How content builds trust;
How the site ultimately encourages inquiries.
If you need a simple presentation page quickly, AI can indeed deliver speed.
For sustained customer acquisition, especially in B2B, page-generation speed is only one consideration.
A website is more than a few pages.
It should communicate the business, serve search demand, establish trust and encourage inquiries.
